Preview : Mall Grab weekender at Bloc, London

A double helping of 'Looking For Trouble' is coming to the capital

Mall Grab, real name Jordan Alexander and Australia’s high-in-demand DJ/producer will soon kick off his Looking For Trouble label’s latest tour. Among the 12 dates which include Paris, Belfast, Barcelona and Edinburgh will also see a double trouble weekend at the artist’s own residence; London. The once dusty house & lo-fi champion has since steered his sound in a different direction during recent years. Swapping the likes of ‘Feel Good House’ for darker genres of broken-beats, other-worldly electro and chaotic techno.

Mall Grab’s diverse and energetic sets can vary between these experimental sounds, with the odd house or old school curveball occasionally thrown in to keep his crowd on their toes. However, select sets have also seen him playing up to two hours of purely original material (mostly unreleased) – something few artists can do and receive such a positive crowd reaction.

Which set style we’ll experience from Mall Grab in London is unknown, though the choice of selectors playing alongside him on the two lineups may help give an indication. The first London show landing on Friday 15th November finds Loods B2B with Salary Boy and Scotland’s Eclair Fifi. Known to play more of the groovier and upbeat sides of electronic music, sharing the stage with these close friends may likely reignite some lo-fi fire with the headliner.

The following day brings more fellow Aussies in the shape of electro starlet Nite Fleit and the unorthodox Skin On Skin for his London debut. With these two artists also holding a love for breakbeats and relentless BPM, we’ll no doubt see Mall Grab causing high-octane havoc alongside them.

The weekender will be taking place at Hackney Wick’s Bloc London. A stripped-back studio style space with a blank canvas for Mall Grab & Co to paint the walls with a colourful palette of sounds spanning across the electronic music spectrum for what will be one helluva weekend.
