Awakenings
Responsible for some of the most popular techno parties that Europe has to offer, Awakenings boast over 20 years of experience in the scene. The beloved brand works hard to keep on top of their game and deliver bigger and better shows year on year. With multiple events in the calendar, their stints range from a summer festival that sees 60,000 ravers, to seasonal spectacles around New Year & Easter, and of course Holland’s renowned Amsterdam Dance Event. 2018 saw another landmark for Awakenings, as they joined forces with German festival giants Time Warp to present the very first Connect Festival.

So, what makes the Easter parties so iconic?

Spring 1997 marked the birth of Awakenings when owner Rocco Veenboer and his team started throwing parties in the iconic Gashouder. From 2000-2005, the Easter parties took a hiatus from their birth venue and moved shop to Rotterdam. Once renovations had completed at the Gashouder, the brand returned home and have continued hosting parties there ever since – along with finding the best spaces Holland has to offer which cater to their unique style.

The Gashouder
Amsterdam’s temple of techno is a mighty event space located in the Westergasfabriek; a gas work complex in the northwest. The venue’s industrial settings and circular shape allow for amazing acoustics, whilst the lack of pillars and beams create insane light displays to fill the room with colour. It’s clear to see why Awakenings made this their permanent location.

Inside there is plenty of space to move and even a large seated area at the back for when you need a break from the madness. Located on each side of the venue are 2 long bars that make use of a token system – keeping drinks flowing and wait times to a minimum. A large and small smoking area, as well as clean toilets and even a massage stand can be found on site. There is also a car park and lockers available for a small fee.

Line-up
Awakenings have again curated a carefully considered roster of DJs for this year’s Easter celebrations. Across the 3 day weekend will see shenanigans starting Friday night, before a daytime event the following day and a final night show to close on the Sunday which will run until 8am. Friday’s line up is certainly not for the fainthearted – expect hard dark techno from the likes of Kobosil and Perc as well as a live set from Berlin duo Fjaak. Saturday’s day event sees techno titans Pan-Pot and Mind Against, as well as a signature set from Awakenings regular Adam Beyer.

Sunday’s closing night keeps the bar high with a unique live set from Attention Deficit Disorder (AND & Dasha Rush), acid sounds from Reiner Zonneveld, Sam Paganini and a closing set from DJ Rush that will keep things moving through the early hours of the day!
