Two cornerstones of electronic music culture – The Hydra and DJ-Kicks (!K7 Records) are joining forces for a one-night takeover at Drumsheds, London, on 5th December, marking 30 years of the legendary DJ-Kicks mix series. The anniversary event brings together some of the most influential selectors of the past three decades, from Moderat (DJ set) and DJ Koze b2b Moodymann, to Theo Parrish b2b Carista, Job Jobse b2b Saoirse, and Kruder & Dorfmeister, alongside a wave of UK heavyweights including DJ Storm b2b Tim Reaper and Mala b2b Kode9.
Launched in 1995, DJ-Kicks has long stood as a touchstone for artistry in the mix format – a space where producers, DJs, and visionaries have documented the underground’s evolution across house, techno, bass, and beyond. From Four Tet to Peggy Gou, the series has defined what it means to mix with intent, nuance, and a sense of storytelling. Partnering with The Hydra – London’s most respected purveyor of immersive, warehouse-rooted events – feels like a full-circle moment for two institutions that have spent decades pushing sound and culture forward.
As The Hydra settles deeper into its new home at Drumsheds, this collaboration also highlights the venue’s evolution. The AW25/26 season sees enhanced acoustic treatment and upgraded bass infrastructure in Room X, fine-tuning its world-class d&b audiotechnik system to deliver pristine sound at scale. For an event celebrating three decades of boundary-pushing music, the setting couldn’t be more fitting – the iconic cavernous, reimagined space designed to channel both intimacy and enormity.
In a statement, !K7 Records dedicated the event to their late founder Horst Weidenmüller, describing it as “a one-off evening honouring all those late nights and sunrises that define our shared love of music.” With an all-star line-up of past DJ-Kicks contributors and modern innovators, The Hydra presents DJ-Kicks: 30th Anniversary promises to be a staple moment in London’s 2025 club calendar – a tribute not just to the past 30 years of electronic music, but to the communities and dancefloors that continue to shape its future.
