Welcome to the Future Festival returns to Amsterdam

Following 2018’s summer & winter editions, the festival will celebrate it’s 13th birthday next year

On July 20th 2019, the beautiful scene of fields surrounded by the rivers of Landsmeer; a semi-rural district north of Amsterdam Centraal, receives a day of colour, bass and 8000 visitors from all around the Globe. Take a look at our recap of 2018’s two Welcome To The Future events, and what to expect at next year’s summer edition.

Welcome to The Future 2018 Recap

July this year saw another successful instalment of the festival, dropping quality music across the house & techno spectrum. Held on a variety of stages, including a main stage bursting with colour and featuring the signature sounds of Dubfire, Joris Voorn, Ilario Alicante and a closing set from the mighty Pan-Pot made this year’s edition one to remember.

A clean mix of beats from Patrick Topping, Green Velvet and Hot Since 82 tearing up the house stage whilst the thumping techno of Dax J, Chris Liebing and Charlotte de Witte were among the other highlights of the day. All this before mentioning the 4 other stages blessed with B2B’s from Bart Skils & Steve Rachmad, Andrea Oliva & wAFF and the heavy sounds of I Hate Models. It’s fair to say the festival has it’s work cut out to top this year.

2018’s indoor edition in November gave a nice sneak peek for what’s to come next year. Hosted at the Warehouse Elementenstraat – a prestigious club in the west of Amsterdam, with a soundsystem you can hear three roads away. 14 hours of stomping techno saw sets from Pig & Dan, Luigi Madonna, Nastia and Charlotte de Witte in the main room, served with lucid visuals that seemed to move the walls around you.

The second room being a 70s décor filled circus stage, complimented the groovy disco tech sound of Benny Rodriguez and Daan Groeneveld, keeping the room moving all day. Next to this, a smaller stage named Salon with some of Amsterdam’s finest in minimal and melodic techno – most of whom played at the summer party too. This winter instalment proved to be the perfect way to keep those summer festival blues at bay.

The summer edition will run from 12.00 – 24.00 on the 20th of July, in the same location of Landsmeer, Amsterdam with easy access to the site via the city’s wide range of public transport. A common feature across Amsterdam festivals are high quality facilities, and a range of food & drinks. Expect traditional Dutch snacks, along with a selection of burgers, pizzas, waffles and smoothies! Drink prices can be costly, although this isn’t out of the ordinary for events in dam. Lockers, earplugs and free water are all available on site.

Plans were in place to extend the event to a two-day party with camping included, however after some unforeseen setbacks, the extension was sadly postponed. However, if a day of world class sound systems, trippy stages, immense light displays and a line up stacked with the greatest house and techno DJs sounds like a bit of you, then maybe a journey to the future is what you need?

Early bird tickets for the summer edition will go on sale January 22nd at midday.

Keep an eye out for lineup announcements coming soon! More info, tickets and the newsletter are available here.
