After a standout debut, R² Festival is set to return to Spaarnwoude in the Netherlands on August 16. Created and headlined by Dutch techno artist Reinier Zonneveld, the festival combines high-energy electronic music with cutting-edge technology, offering a no holds barred experience for fans of the genre.

The lineup this year includes more than 50 artists, covering a wide range of electronic styles. Some of the notable names include Claptone, Angerfist, Tchami, DYEN, Pan-Pot, Chris Liebing, Rebekah, Showtek, and Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo. The festival will feature six stages, each hosted by respected labels and collectives like Teletech, The Beginning, 5 Years Gold Dry, SUPERSTRINGS, and Hush. These partners represent key moments in Zonneveld’s career and help shape the sound of the event.

One of the festival’s most unique features is Reinier’s marathon live set. This year, he’ll perform face-to-face (F2F) with several artists in back-to-back sets that highlight live collaboration. These special performances include pairings with Pan-Pot, Angerfist, DYEN, and others, combining different sounds and styles into something new.

A standout moment will be Reinier’s live set with his AI counterpart, R². The collaboration, which debuted last year, blends human performance with artificial intelligence, supported by futuristic visuals and a stage designed specifically for this hybrid act.
Beyond the music, Zonneveld is also a vocal advocate for thoughtful AI use in the music industry. He has worked with Dutch music rights group BumaStemra and shared his views with European policymakers in Brussels.
