Motion Bristol to close this July, with campaign for new location announced

“Motion, as we know it, is coming to a close,”

Motion has confirmed it will shut its doors at the current Avon Street location in July 2025, marking the end of an era for one of Bristol’s most prominent nightclubs. The venue, which has operated from its home in Temple Meads for nearly two decades, is now launching a public fundraising campaign to support the next chapter – Motion 2.0

The closure follows the expiry of the club’s lease, a situation first made public last year. Despite submitting a fully funded bid to buy the site and outlining a long-term vision for its future, Motion’s owners have now acknowledged that efforts to remain at the current location have not succeeded.

Over the past 19 years, Motion has established itself as a major fixture in Bristol’s nightlife and a key player in the UK’s electronic music landscape. The club’s team also paid tribute to its wider community, including artists, staff and the city itself, saying the venue had offered the freedom to take creative risks and grow alongside its audience.

Looking ahead, Motion has launched a crowdfunding campaign under the name #KEEPMOTIONMOVING, aiming to raise £250,000 towards securing a freehold property in Bristol. The plan is to create a permanent new home for both Motion and its sister venue, Marble Factory, with the goal of protecting the operation from the kind of external pressures that have contributed to venue closures across the country.

Daniel Law-Deeks, Managing Director at Motion, described the club as “more than just a club, it’s a cultural institution that has put Bristol on the global music map.”

Supporters are invited to contribute via donations or investment, with backers offered a range of incentives including closing party tickets, year passes, exclusive merchandise, VIP guestlist access, and lifetime membership opportunities.
