A new 150-capacity nightclub has opened in London

The space recently secured a permanent license

A new nightclub; Gaffe, has opened its doors in South London last weekend after securing a permanent license from Lambeth Council. The 150-capacity venue, located near Wandsworth Road Station, aims to serve as a vibrant community hub, blending music, arts, and culture.

While weekends will be dedicated to music events, the venue plans to host a diverse range of weekday activities, including photography sessions, DJ workshops, yoga classes, and creative meet-ups. Designed with an “immersive” layout and fitted with a Funktion-One sound system, Gaffe opened on February 1st with a “Gaffe Presents” event featuring performances from Hodge, Danielle and Parris.

Gaffe’s journey to securing its license has not been without challenges. Initially denied in 2024 due to concerns from local residents over noise and post-event disturbances, the venue operated under a temporary event notice before being granted approval this week. Councillors lifted their objections after owners agreed to implement stricter security measures, including an increased security presence and ID scanners. The venue will now be permitted to operate until 3:20 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

A Gaffe spokesperson said:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to finally have our permanent license, cementing our place as a dedicated space for grassroots electronic music and wider arts culture in South London. The community’s warm reception has been incredible, and it’s been amazing to see Gaffe evolve into a hub for creative expression.

From cutting-edge lighting installations to providing a safe and welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community and others who may not always feel comfortable in traditional nightclubs, we’re excited for what’s to come.”

Since launching under its temporary license last year, Gaffe has hosted performances from artists such as Lukas Wigflex, KT, Bobby and Ted Amber. Now, with its future secured, the venue looks set to become a key player in South London’s cultural scene.
