The Haçienda Celebrates its Legacy with Special Book Launch Event

The event takes place on October 9th at New Century Hall in Manchester

A new book celebrating the legendary Haçienda nightclub is set to launch with a special event in Manchester, bringing together the people who made the iconic club what it was. The official book, packed with evocative photographs and eye-witness accounts, takes readers through the groundbreaking club’s history, with contributions from some of the biggest names in music, fashion, and club culture.

Opened on May 21, 1982, and closing its doors in 1997, the Haçienda became a defining force in the evolution of British music and clubbing culture. Often referred to as a “cathedral of the alternative,” the venue played a pivotal role in the careers of countless artists and was central to the rise of dance music and the acid house scene. Its influence remains alive today, with Haçienda-branded events continuing to draw both veteran clubbers and a new generation of fans.

The book launch will take place on October 9th at Manchester’s historic New Century Hall in what promises to be a night to remember. In true Haçienda style, the event, which runs from 6pm to 1:30am, will feature much more than just a book signing. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to three charities: AKT, Mind, and Sarcoma UK.

The night will include a lively roundtable discussion featuring key figures from the Haçienda’s storied history. Titled “In Conversation,” the panel will be moderated by journalist Paul Flynn and include prominent voices from the club’s past such as Peter Hook of New Order, DJs Graeme Park and Greg Wilson, general manager Ang Matthews, and Flesh promoter Paul Cons. Other special guests include fashion designer Ian Griffiths, alt-cabaret performer David Hoyle, Angela Murray of fetish label ‘Murray & Vern’, and music legends Noel Gallagher and Mani of The Stone Roses.

Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase copies of the book. The book’s curator, Rebecca Hook, alongside several panel members, will be available for signings.

The event will also feature performances from a line-up of DJ talent, including Peter Hook, Graeme Park, Jon Dasilva, Hewan Clarke, Guy Williams, and rare appearances by Lady Bump and Michelle Kelly. Guests can also expect special performances that reflect the unique style and flair that defined the Haçienda’s golden years.

As the Haçienda continues to inspire both past and present generations, this book launch will offer a fresh look at the enduring cultural significance of a club that forever changed the landscape of music, fashion, and nightlife.
