DIØN Breathes New Life into Tiesto’s Classic Anthem “Traffic”

Out now on Verknipt Records

Techno titan DIØN has just released a supercharged take on a dance anthem. Released July 5th on Verknipt Records, “Traffic” is the latest hit from the Amsterdam-based DJ/producer.

Originally released in 2003, “Traffic” became a defining piece in Tiesto’s discography and a staple in the trance and electronic dance music scenes. DIØN’s reinterpretation manages to honour the classic while infusing it with a fresh, contemporary twist.

DIØN burst onto the scene in 2020 with his landmark single “Public Enemies” via Autektone. Since then, his career has soared, becoming one of the hottest properties in Hard Dance. This latest release proving just why he’s the name on everyone’s lips.

From the outset, DIØN’s version of “Traffic” maintains the driving beat and pulsating rhythm that made the original a hit. However, the cover is far from a simple replica. DIØN introduces modern production techniques that add depth, flair and up the ante. His signature heavy-hitting drums and scintillating acid lines give the track a renewed energy that feels both nostalgic and novel.

One of the most striking aspects of DIØN’s cover is the seamless integration of new elements. Updated synth sounds and intricate percussive details are woven into the fabric of the track, enhancing its complexity and appeal to Hard Dance crowds of the present day.

The powerful bassline, in particular, propels the track forward, whilst rolls and risers add unhinged urgency and a never-ending crescendo which keeps your hairs standing on end – magnificent.

Speaking about the significance of the original, DIØN said:

It was one of my first encounters with (electronic music). When I was really young my dad would pick me and my brother up from my grandmother who was watching us after school when my parents had to work. My dad always had this Tiësto CD playing in his car with this track ‘Traffic’ on it, and we would listen to it almost every time he picked us up. I never could have imagined that I would be doing a rework for this track.”

For me Tiësto is a real legend and this is my favourite track of his. I had to make something that would stick close to the original sound but also a track that I could play in my sets and have my own elements in it like signature drums and acid. My sold-out 10-hour set in Thuishaven in June was the first time I played it out and it went absolutely crazy, I saw the hole crowd just living in the moment of it, especially in the long and uplifting break. I’m very happy how it turned out.”
