When the Sonus Festival team arrived on Croatia’s Adriatic coast in 2011, there was little if any techno at all. Within a year, the team had set out on a mission to change that. In the decade since they very much have and now regularly host titans of the scene like Ricardo Villalobos, Margaret Dygas and Richie Hawtin.
The brainchild of the same minds as Germany’s iconic TimeWarp, Sonus has a real focus on platforming local talent next to its international headliners. 2023 is no exception, as the festival prepares for its much awaited 10th anniversary from 20 – 24th August 2023.
Headlining this year’s milestone event will be the likes of Joseph Capriati, Chris Stussy, Sonja Moonear, Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Diplo, Paula Temple, Sven Väth, Seth Troxler, ANNA, Vintage Culture, Marco Carola, Sama’ Abdulhadi, The Martinez Brothers, Loco Dice, Maceo Plex, Kobosil and many more.
Following Sonus’ debut in 2011, Croatia’s landscape during the summer season has developed with a real focus on underground genres, putting resource and funding into diverse lineups, high quality production and world class sound systems which have in turn attracted passionate, like-minded crowds of ravers.
The venues for this annual spectacle are just as important as the headliners and are consistently voted amongst the best in the world. Utilising the globally renowned sun-kissed beachside and open-air hotspots like Aquarius, Kalypso and Papaya, along with plenty of boat party options allows Sonus to continue the party non stop from sunrise, to sunset and all through the night.
Next to the tunes, secluded bays and long coastal walks with stunning views offer plenty of extra activities for the masses of attendees which come from over 80 countries. All sights have now turned the picturesque town of Novalja, which is set to be the home for this huge celebration and an essential summer festival for techno fans.
