A unique set of shows organised by Lane 8, a prominent US producer, is advocating for attendees to refrain from using their phones while on the dancefloor. This Never Happened, makes its debut in Australia next month from July 14 – 16 and will be held across three locations: Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Upon entry, participants will receive stickers from the melodic house label to cover their phone cameras, as just one of the measures to try and prevent them from taking photos and videos during the event. Attendees are notified in advance of the phone restriction, which is a customary feature of every This Never Happened event.

The much-anticipated three-day affair, co-organised by Untitled Group, will showcase renowned artists such as Le Youth, Paris, and Sultan + Shepard, who are considered among the leading acts associated with This Never Happened.

A spokesperson for the festival talks on the use of phones on the dancefloor, saying:
“Everybody is so used to seeing footage on Instagram where there are a million people standing in front of them and they are all doing the same thing. It actually looks a bit whack.”
